| The
D.L. Forbes Youth Foundation was inspired by the late Elder
Demetrius Lotrick Forbes, Sr. Shortly before his death (while
conversing with one of his sons), he shared the vision that
he had which involved working with "at risk" youth in the community
. The D.L.Forbes Youth Foundation was birthed out of that
vision during the following timelines: |

April
11, 2002 - The first meeting was held at the Elks Lodge
off of S. Alston Ave in Durham, NC. Approximatley 35 people
were in attendance. |

March
2003 - The first set of cadets which consisted of 6 males
attended a modified Academy Program. The DL Forbes Youth Academy Program was held at
the old Police Sub-Station four off of Hwy. 55 in Durham,
NC.
The cadets met daily for two hours over a period of two
weeks. |

June
2003 - The first overnight Academy Program was held for a period
of two weeks at Camp Mayo in Roxboro, NC. There were 37
cadets, both male and female. |

2004 - The second overnight Academy Program was held for a period
of two weeks at Camp Mayo in Roxboro, NC. There were 39
cadets, both male and female. |

2005 - The third overnight Academy Program was held for a period
of two weeks at Camp Mayo in Roxboro, NC. There were 39
cadets, both male and female. |

2006 - The fourth overnight Academy Program was held for a period
of forty days, which was extended from the previous two
week camp session. There were 29 cadets, both male and
female. The first two weeks was held at Camp Mayo in Roxboro,
NC. and the remainder was held at N.C.C.U in Durham, NC.
The cadets were taught drills, service projects, and they
adhered to the ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) curriculum
focusing on English, Math, Reading, Writing, Science and
Public Speaking. |
